Healthcare has been a part of my life since I was born. I remember the countless visits to the doctor as a child and getting a sticker every time I got a shot. However, healthcare changed for me in high school when my mom was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. This inspired me to go into healthcare PR so that I can be the brains behind a campaign that will inform people about different illnesses to allow for early detection and diagnosis.

Healthcare PR comes with a lot of responsibilities and ethical challenges. Here are three ways to stay healthy in Health Care PR.

1.Engage with Social Networking Communities

In a society where many people are on social networking sites, take advantage of the platform to engage with patients. This provides a great way for patients to share experiences about conditions, symptoms, and treatment outcomes with other patients. However, it can also be a great way for the brand to engage with its patients. It can be a way to provide recent research on an illness and show patients new treatment options. However, it can also be used as an evaluation metric to see how products can improve to provide a better brand experience for patients.

2. Deliver the Data

When designing a healthcare PR campaign, it should be grounded in facts and statistics that support your overarching campaign. Use the statistic to draw readers in to raise awareness and then explain other factors and issues regarding the specific disease or illness. This will show that as the PR professional you know what you are talking about and this will allow you to impact more patients. Oh, and don’t forget to fact check so you are giving patients the most accurate and up-to-date information

3. Coordinate Multi-Channel Distribution

It is important to change content slightly depending on the channel of distribution and target audience, but it is important to keep the message consistent for all patients. By coordinating the content across different channels, it will have not only the highest return on investment for a brand, but also the highest impact on patients. Staying consistent across a variety of channels will allow your patients to view your brand as reliable.

Following these three things will allow me to be transparent and honest with the patients that I engage with throughout my career. By being honest and open, I will be able to have a big impact on patients and be able to save lives through campaigns that I design that bring awareness to a variety of diseases and illnesses.
